About Our Community

Willowbend is in Osprey (Pop. 4,200), along Florida’s majestic southwest gulf coast. It is about 10 miles south of downtown Sarasota (Pop. 53,000) and 6 miles north of Venice, in what is referred to as “unincorporated” South Sarasota County. We are only minutes away from award-winning beaches and less than 18 miles from the spectacular Van Wezel Performing Arts HallMarie Selby Botanical Gardens, the newly expanded Ringling Museum of Art and the unique arts district of downtown Sarasota.

Osprey was settled in 1867 as a small fishing village and is also home to Oscar Scherer State Park and Historic Spanish Point, one of Florida’s earliest settlements where the Calusa Indians left evidence of their existence 4000+ years ago. Willowbend is the State’s first Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Community, meets Florida Power & Light’s – Build Smart® requirements and is characterized by well-maintained homes and yards, with excellent schools nearby and beautiful Oscar Scherer State Park bordering our community.

Willowbend is an intergenerational community where retirees, families with children and single adults have chosen to live. Willowbend is also a Deed Restricted and maintenance free community encompassing nearly 130 acres. The Covenants, Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws and the Boards Rules and Regulations promote environmental and architectural harmony in our community with the intent to enhance property values and encourage cooperation in an association of homeowners.

Association membership includes more than just sharing the costs of lawn care or of a recreational center. It means cultivating mutually respectful relationships with our neighbors day-by-day and sharing as friends, neighbors and volunteers in our Community governance and group activities.
